OUR
STORY

Celebrate You Foundation is here to make sure foster children know that their birthday is not just another day.

Her goal was simple; to be the change she wanted to see in the world through public service in her community.

Although Aviance was never formally award of the state and officially placed in the foster care system, for majority of her youth she was raised by any family member that was willing to take her into their home. Aviance was born to parents who abused drugs and alcohol and were in and out of jail. She experienced many Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES's) that posed challenges to her academically, emotionally, and mentally.

Despite the odds that were stacked against her, Aviance married, raised and family and completed a Master's Degree in Public Administration with a focus in non-profit. Her goal was simple; to be the change she wanted to see in the world through public service in her community.

Early one morning, a little girl around 6 years old was brought in by a social worker. As the child clung to her blanket and garbage bag full of belongings, the social worker signed her in and nonchalantly shared that today was the child’s birthday! Immediately Aviance felt a flood of emotions and asked her boss if she could go to the store and get her some cupcakes, anything to make this little girl's day better.

From that day forward Aviance and her family educated themselves on the world of foster care and shortly after received their foster care license through Washington State. In 2018, Aviance founded Celebrate You Foundation to combine her love for cake decorating, event planning, and a servants heart to bring birthday parties to foster youth across her state.

FOSTER CARE FACTS

In 2017, there were nearly 8,800 children in out-of-home care. This represents approximately 5.5 out of every 1,000 children in Washington state.

A SIMPLE WAY TO HELP

Besides the very traumatic experience of being removed from their home, the only other thing all foster children have in common is they have a birthday. We want to simply support foster families in the great work that they are already doing by offering celebratory Birthday Bundles, and community-oriented Birthday Bashes.
